Commanders "working through" Bieniemy's position.

When the Commanders brought in a new General Manager, they had one. Along with the new offensive coordinator, they had one before.

The Commanders did not terminate Eric Bieniemy's employment. He was in a state of uncertainty after his interview for the position of head coach. The addition of Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinators is a recent development.

The news of Kingsbury's hiring as offensive coordinator was announced by the team on X. As stated on the team's website, Bieniemy is in charge of the offense.

Thus, the Commanders' offence is supervised by a duo of coordinators.

During their meeting with the media later today, Quinn and G.M. Adam Peters are expected to address the matter. According to someone familiar with the matter, the squad is currently "working through" Bieniemy's predicament.

Taking a "cake and eat it too" stance toward personnel who would presumably be laid off gives the Commanders a confused appearance. Bieniemy avoided the offensive coordinator spin-cycle recycle bin, where other former OCs have found similar positions elsewhere, thanks to this

It's not that Bieniemy had any other interest in being a coordinator. His apparent singular concentration has been on achieving the position of head coach.

Like they did with previous G.M. Martin Mayhew, maybe they can figure out a way to retain him in Washington. If it doesn't materialize, Bieniemy may not have a chance to play in 2024—that is, unless the players demand his replacement due to an unforeseen retirement.
