Eagles DB coach departing for college co-DC

Defensive backs coach D.K. McDonald is allegedly departing the Eagles as part of their ongoing coaching staff reshuffling.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Friday night that McDonald will be joining the Kansas staff as the defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator.

Not surprisingly, McDonald's will not be returning in 2024. Vic Fangio has been busy assembling his own coaching staff since the Eagles signed him as defensive coordinator. Fangio is a veteran of the NFL.

There were rumors circulating earlier this week that Karl Scott, the defensive backs coach for the Seahawks, was going to join the Eagles. However, recent information suggests that he will be remaining around in Seattle to work under the new head coach.

Reportedly, Joe Kasper has been hired by the Eagles to coach the safety position. Kasper coached the same position in 2023 for Fangio in Miami and was an assistant with the Eagles before last season.

After Dennard Wilson departed the Eagles following the 2022 season, McDonald took over as coach of the defensive backs for a single season.

Wilson has officially taken over as defensive coordinator for the Titans as of this week. With the Eagles for two years prior to last season, McDonald served as an assistant DBs coach.

The departure of McDonald is noteworthy because to his tight relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni, albeit it should come as no surprise. They first became acquainted during their time as housemates in 2006–2008, when they were both coaching at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
