Jason Kelce won't play in Super Bowl LVIII. When the Chiefs play the 49ers on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, tight end Travis Kelce still thinks he's facing one of his siblings. The great tight ends praised one other on Opening Night in Las Vegas, with Kelce calling Kittle family.
"If last year was the Kelce Bowl, this is the Tight End [University] Bowl," Kelce told reporters. "I'm still playing against one of my brothers in George Kittle." Kittle elaborated on why he values his bond with Kelce as the two prepare to play on the NFL's greatest stage.
"I saw Travis' film in college," Kittle told reporters. Exchanging jerseys with him was one of the best moments ever. In 2018, when we played the Chiefs, I remarked, 'Wow, this is one of the coolest days of my life.'
"I love Travis Kelce, and being able to be friends, peers, run Tight End [University] with him, and get to know him has been great.
I like his game and have seen so much of his video. Anything he says nice about you feels good. His football skills are excellent. He may be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Anything Travis Kelce makes is great. The fact that you're pals sweetens it.
Kelce and Kittle's camaraderie was evident at Monday night's opening ceremony in Las Vegas. Kelce and Kittle are the best tight ends of their age, with 14 Pro Bowl choices and six First-Team All-Pro honors.
In 2023, Kittle caught six touchdowns and completed his third 1,000-yard receiving season, earning First-Team All-Pro accolades for the first time since 2019, the last time the 49ers competed in the Super Bowl.
After losing to Kelce and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV, Kittle and the 49ers may complete a four-year odyssey by playing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Sunday in Las Vegas.
